"The “Pépinière” concept has been used at L’Oréal for around 20 years. This system lies at the heart of the L’Oréal recruitment strategy. The literal meaning of Pépinière is “an area where seedlings are cultivated to obtain young plants” or, in other words, “a greenhouse”."
A Pépinière is a graduate with little professional experience (max. 3 years)
The Pépinière programme helps us implement out HR policy and more specifically our recruitment activities. We recruit proactively by anticipating needs and practising “Everyday recruiting”. In this way, we can find and develop profiles that are original, with real passion for the beauty “metier”. This involves a degree of risk, recruiting strong personalities and taking a personalised approach to managing their development within our company.
The programme also enables us to stay ultra reactive in the War for Talent. It allows us to recruit constantly, with the freedom to take on a particularly gifted candidate at any given moment and to have him/her follow the Pépinière programme, even if no clear position is vacant at the time. This investment provides us with a quality talent bank able to respond quickly to urgent needs.
Pépinières should be given development assignments that foster learning and reflection. These missions are generally chosen by managers working in collaboration with HR, and they aim to stimulate reflection and invite newcomers to play an active role during their discovery of the field, products and our organisation. He/she will then be able to communicate observations and conclusions through “personal insight memos”. The experience level of the pépinières and the relevance of that experience generally influences the type of mission assigned to him/her.
